Did You Know? A Short History of Our Bowling Center

  • Tenpins & More started life in Rio Rancho in 1983 as Ranchero Bowl.
  • Bowling business veteran, Steve Mackie, an Australian, purchased the Center in December, 1999, bringing with him more than 40 years operating experience in the industry.
  • He is married to Albuquerque's Dana Miller-Mackie, the best-known professional bowler in the state of New Mexico.
  • Brother-in-law, Mike Miller (a co-owner) and father-in-law, Gary Miller, both professional bowlers, run the Pro-Shop and offer coaching lessons at the Center, including exclusive video coaching at certain times.
  • There are more than 40 full and part-time employees ready to help you enjoy your bowling every time you visit.
  • More than $510,000 has so far been spent on numerous equipment and facility upgrades. These include Smokeeters that help remove stale air, a state-of-the-art lane-conditioning machine that has provided consistent, high-scoring lanes, bumpers across the 24 lanes and the popular "Glow in the Dark" bowling experience.
  • We run it all - not only the pro-shop, but also the snack bar and new-look sports lounge that often has karaoke entertainment, along with sports on five screens.
  • Competitive leagues are a feature at Tenpins & More. There are more than 1,180 people bowling in 27 different weekly leagues - up more than 530 from just three years ago. The free playroom attracts young couples to join night leagues.
  • Tenpins & More offers THE best league benefits package in the state. Next time you visit, check out the details.
  • Tournaments that cater to all bowlers are held at least three weekends each month. Tournaments account for almost ten percent of all games bowled, more than four times the US national average.
  • Recognition of performance is important. Not only do we have a "Wall of Fame" but also we are the ONLY Center in New Mexico where league high scores are listed in a bowling newspaper. Two local newspapers also carry feature stories on a regular basis.
  • Plenty of lanes are kept aside to allow people the opportunity to bowl for recreation and/or practice. Phone reservations are always welcomed.
  • Special league bowler Practice Club savings are substantial as well as getting a T-shirt, pro-shop discounts and two sponsored tournaments.
  • Kid's birthday parties are exploding! From only one a month two years ago there is often more than twelve a week, including some after school on Tuesdays when "Glow" bowling is offered.
  • Corporate parties, company picnics and fund-raisers have also become popular, particularly with Intel and many other local companies. These include bowling, food and beverages and are proving an inexpensive and fun way to help people get along better at the workplace. More often than not, these gatherings are held "on the clock".
  • Glow sessions are held five times a week on three different days - more than any other Bowling Center in town!
